Upper Lansdowne started as a 9 hole course designed by one of Ohio’s most renowned golf course architects, Jack Kidwell, in 1961. In 1995 Kidwell revisited the course accompanied by Mike Hurdzan and designed another 9 holes. This was one of Kidwell’s last projects before retirement. An enjoyable 18 hole layout opened in 1989. Built on rolling hills, a housing development surrounds the course, as do mature trees on virtually every hole. The wide, manicured fairways besieged by ponds and creeks which affect play on a total of 14 holes. The medium sized undulating greens are guarded by sand on half the holes. Thorn Apple is a Jack Kidwell designed course and was opened in 1966. It has many challenging holes, including a 245 yard par three. If you want length, you can stretch your round out by playing the back tees at over 7,000 yards. The greens are generous and the fairways are challenging to hit. If you can hit these fairways, you can hit any fairways. While out playing you may see some wildlife such as redtail hawks, ducks, geese and an occasional deer. In the early 1990s, Glenn and Lucinda Gulick had a vision to build a golf course in the rolling terrain of northern Pickaway County. Safari’s four new holes present golfers with a more challenging experience embodying wooded areas, rolling fairways & waterways.
